Red Barn

The only shot was through the trees, at least that's how I saw it. I kept moving to the right but there were to many open doorways and the message of color was lost (I did make an image over there, but it wasn't about the barn). In this, the shallow depth of field gives you nothing to focus on but the color. Who knows where the livestock is. I saw this as another Fall image of color, it just happens to be paint.

Foggy Forest

Usually when I see from this spot I feel like you do when you notice distances in the desert. Seems like the trees go on forever. The fog stops the forever feel today, but that's OK. I like how there's one row of trees separated out by the fog. The point of focus is now the these trees. It helps add depth and interest to an otherwise nothing image.

Autumn Highlights

I thought the telephone lines were begging for an image with this highlight on them. Everything else in the image was just support for this otherwise regular and mundane subject. I saw this through my foggy wet drivers side window and just before I rolled it down I made 2 quick decisions. Not to roll the window down and take one shot. I didn't even roll the window down to see what I may have missed. The sharpest part of the image is a small sliver of telephone line of the left edge. It's another "it's not in focus but what's out of focus" shot. My lens gave the perfect vignette possibly from the closeness and angle my lens was to the window. It's like a painting.

Un-titled #036

Sometimes I wonder what draws me to an image. When you mow the lawn you do it because you have to. Do you have to take a picture, make an image? This image could look like a field, void of any excitement, but not to me. The power lines weren't part of the draw, but when I noticed them it was like icing on the cake. Power lines bothered me until I decided to except them like air. Just let them do their thing. The birds helped but I not sure they needed to be there. I liked the warm field against the otherwise dreary day. I couldn't wait to shoot this and put a sliver of the field at the bottom of the frame. If I'd kept driving this would have been one of those images in my mind that I should have created. They never go away, the moment is gone, it'll never be the same, the feeling is lost. I've proven this to be true.

Old House

Imagine picking up your prom date from this place. It seems it went from Christmas lights to vacant. When someone lives in a place the story is written. When a place is vacant the story can be many things. I always wonder about places like this. How long has it been since people lived there? What kind of people were they? How long before the building is rubble hidden by grass and golden rod? How many more images can I make before someone looks out the window? That would scare me!

Cold House

Sleet, snow, and rain, what a day. I'll admit, I never left the car, and didn't put the window down. The window up (dirty and wet), helped keep the contrast down and makes it more real for the day. Sometimes I think camera technology is so good it takes some of the realism out of the image. The house is square on this day. I think of a place like this as an abandoned barn. It's vacant and with no upkeep, it won't be long before it's a pile of rotten boards on the ground.

Ice Fishing

I like the thought of ice fishing but not actually doing it. Being cold in the cold all day to "maybe" catch some fish? I've stopped at many fishing places and tried to come up with something in the past. It's never worked out. This angle is from a pull off, and I had a nice (and different) view from above. I had to take advantage of this. The trees seem to separate the quiet day on the ice with the rest of the world. The snow paths show the activity, and the shadow on the side of the shanty seems to add a fifth person, almost more human the the people. These guys are doing what you do on a good day when your not catching anything, hanging out and throwing things when the urge strikes. It's a guy thing. Maybe I am missing out!
