Holy Smokes #002

I thought this was some place with the salt and pepper shakers handy on the windowsill. This was taken at Holy Smokes, it no longer exists as a restaurant, but it's a nice part of a series I've been working on. The windows were colored glass, as a church should have, and this one was warm with the warm toned finishing, so I thought it would make a good simple photograph. And that's just the thing, somethings are just so simple.

Herm's

This was one of my favorite spots in my resturant/diner series. As I've said before, in this series I try to capture something that's unique to the place and more than just the tourist snap. Herm's was known for many things other than the food. I liked the atmosphere, a little dark, but always something to look at. The exposures for the different powered lights was the only difficulty here. In the end I made it work. I took Herm's for granted, a big lesson. The resturant is now a statistic in our current economic times, everything has been sold off, they exist no more.

Smithsonian

I like this place. Good food, good locals, great service. Usually they're loaded with people. I saw the chairs in the corner and wondered if this is the waiting area or where bad tippers sat. I like the tones and light here. I enjoy doing my Rest/Pub/Diner series as it allows me to sit, eat, drink, and take pictures. And then there's Keno!

Holy Smokes

I try to get a neat image, showing the ambiance and character of pubs/restaurants/diners that I go to. I don't just walk in and shoot it. Sometimes it's several visits before I see "the shot" or "feel it". Holy Smokes had a big pig attached to their ceiling, I shot this, but so did everyone else. I took this after eating their "Wicked" Spicy Mac and Cheese. Perfect!

Diner

Lisa and I had just agreed that the we had never seen as many trucks, but at the same time so few cars. I had some photographic success tonight , wasn't thinking of more images but ...this is a double exposure, shot thru my dirty Geo windshield. After the second shot, I put the camera down and said %$#*ing-A! We laughed and left.
