Time

I call this Time and I'm not sure if I title it as a verb, noun, or adjective. And I don't know if I like time or not. For something that could go on forever, I find it restrictive amongst other things.
I get engrossed in it, fascinated, and frustrated.

When I approached this subject, the image I made wasn't there. In fact, I was pissed to the type of day we had and the tide was in. After I stumbled into the image, I realized my problem was I was looking for something else. I don't know right now what that was, but reminded myself to be open and see what opportunity I might have.

I have two images. The first is what was there to see. The second, is what was made. If your thinking Photoshop, your stupid.

Ripples

Somethings look better when they're moving and somethings not. I like to see movement in my images but this time I thought differently. It might sound simple post pic, but while I was watching this I realized it was already moving, why not stop it. This happens normally even if you have your camera on auto, this I know. I was doing it purposefully here, with thought. Any shot wouldn't do, so I studied, watched and tried to understand and see it differently. I have nothing profound to speak about concerning my thoughts, but in the study I did see different moments, eventually realizing it was never the same, it wouldn't repeat. Everything slowed down, I was in the zone, had to shoot.

Connecticut River

There's a lot of activity on the Connecticut River normally. Maybe it was to early or something but nobody out on this morning. The little floats were what interested me at first. I liked the diagonal they were on and I only had to move a little from my original view before I had them in the composition that worked for me. I like how blue the image went, it was how the morning was.

Water and Sky

This was one of those times when nothing was working. I decided to do the opposite thing where I figure out what I'm doing and then do, the opposite. I was trying to show motion, and decided to freeze it. Instead of focusing on the reflection I focus on the hardest thing to see, the rocky bottom. Much better. I took many images this day, and almost gave up. We won't have many more days like this, I'm glad I stuck with it.

Out-Cast

Here's one where I wonder what everyone was thinking. This was a very dreary wet/rainy day. I almost felt bad for the fisher-people. Seemed like a town event. Did the lone guy know something the others didn't? Did they know better? I didn't see any luck while I was there. To keep the attention on the boy I had to drop the color out (the colorful umbrellas were stealing the show). I hoped in a way the boy would pull in a fish and hold it up for everyone to see. He didn't, but I was still happy knowing, "I got mine!"

Fish'n

This image was made from the bridge of my previous post. I just saw one of the "fisherpeople" over the guard rail, and it was worth the energy to find a place to park and hustle back out on the bridge. Finding the second guy in the lower left, I knew I had one of those "Vermont Life" images made in Mass. It took a few moments, to find the angle, and a few more for the cast. I thought ironic that they were fishing for fish, while I was fishing for pix. Got one!

Contemplation

We drove over the bridge and saw these guys walking out. It didn't take long to find a place to park and get set up in case someone actually jumped. The shot has an odd depth of field because I wanted to isolate these guys and make the jump area look bigger. They did start jumping and didn't hold back. Running jumps, throwing their bodies around before they made the big splash. This is what I'd hoped for and I did a pretty good job capturing this. After they've jumped the story is written. Surprisingly I chose the "non jump" image. There may be no story here, just the wonder of what everyone is thinking.

Ducks

The day was foggy, wet, and quiet, it was a Ducks world. I couldn't believe they were co-operating by sticking around. They saw me and were cautious, but I still moved quickly. To show their size I thought it was important to show as much water as possible. They little guy on the right made the shot. I couldn't figure out if they just didn't want him in the group or he was just a slow duck. Works for me.

Autumn Rock

I was looking for water shots and color. Water moving and not moving. Here we see a combination of both (I rarely do this). I liked both images but not by themselves. Almost put them side by side but decided to flip one and combine the two. After combining, forget the water, speed, and color, it's the rock that grabs the attention. Sweet!

Geese

Another cold morning in Western Mass. The light mixed with the fog was perfect and I hoped the Geese wouldn't leave once they saw me (they usually do). The camera set up was a mess and I had to shoot on the move (they were leaving). The left side vignette was from the lens and I saw this as I was shooting. The surprise was in the color of the image. Didn't plan it but I'll take it. The Geese didn't go far but the shooting was done. Off to work.

Humans

The shot was quite easy to pull off. Camera settings and focus are done in advance and tested for effect. Then I wait for something to happen visually and snipe them when their not looking. It's part of my "Little People" series. The photographic effect I used helped blend the earth and sky (making the "Humans" appear smaller). I wish I had taken a shot of them turning around and walking straight back out.

Ice

We came around a corner and I couldn’t figure out what I was looking at. First I thought drought and the lake was low. Turns out, what I thought was mud, was ice! I had to make some kind of image. The hard part was finding the angle without tree limbs and things. The exposure worked out nicely as I only had to worry about the sky (I stopped down one to keep the ice dark). This image makes me think of a surreal moon, and SPRING!
